Motivational Tips and Tricks For Weight Loss

Sometimes, the road to successful weight loss can feel like a solitary journey on a lonely path. We know that the desired outcome is worth the sacrifice, but the process of getting there is not without its troubles. For those who have a large amount of weight to lose, the journey can sometimes lead to getting burned out, and sometimes you just face setbacks and plateaus along the way.

There are several things you can do in order to stay motivated in the weight loss process, including:

1) Becoming part of a team: One of the most frustrating parts of being on a diet is having to go at it alone. No matter where you are in your goal of slimming down, it's never a bad idea to find community with other people on the same path. Even if you only have one or two people in your weight loss buddy group, you will find it encouraging to be able to have others to talk to and help you work through difficulties on rough days.

2) Taking breaks. Sometimes, it's emotionally and physically helpful to take mini-breaks after you reach various weight loss landmarks. For some people, this is a 5 or 10 pound mark; for others, it's being down one size smaller. At any rate, after you reach these goals, it can helpful to take 5 to 7 days to not focus so much on losing more weight, but to instead focus on keeping up with the lifestyle changes needed to maintain this new weight or size. Shifting from active weight loss mode to maintenance mode can go a long way toward keeping you on the course for long-term weight loss.

3) Fighting boredom: One of the most common things that can derail people from sticking with a weight loss plan is boredom in the form of a workout regime or eating plan. Make a conscious decision to not let yourself get in a rut. This means trying new forms of exercise at least once a week. Not only will this keep your muscles from getting too used to your regular workout, but chances are, sooner or later, you will stumble across a new workout that you really enjoy. When you find a type of workout you really love, add it into your daily workout rotation. Ideally, you should aim for a rotation of 7-10 different workouts so you will not get bored easily and get tempted to skip an exercise session.

4) Refusing to worry. Some days, despite your very best efforts, the numbers of the scale will be up. The body is a fascinating piece of machinery and, despite everything we do know about losing weight...we don't know everything. If your scale doesn't budge, or, worse yet, keeps creeping up for several days, relax. The important thing to do is refuse to panic and stick to your plan. It's worked this far, and it will continue to work as long as you stay diligent. Don't get caught up in the numbers game when the stakes are this high. Your body may just need a few days to sort things out. Stay calm, stay the course, and weight loss will prevail.
